Learn to understand the basic principles of animation through a series of simple, fun exercises and paper related tasks. With drawing taking centre stage this day course promises to stretch your design and observation skills and to quite literally get your imagination moving. Amazing.
Discuss what makes a good animation and how that logically translates into the sequential drawing of them.
Start the class with a round robin drawing exercise in which we literally realise consequences from one drawing to the next.
Perform a series of simple drawn exercise to illustrate first principles in drawn animation including: Creating a two-stage bird in cage animation; a two-stage flip book; a shock-horror animation.
Follow instructions to illustrate and animate a set format first flip book - It Came From the Deep. We will concentrate on planning a good story-line; clarity and continuity from one frame to the next; tracing through and placing your image on the page; readability; and following a brief.
Discuss effectiveness in our animations. What are we trying to convey? How can we best do this?
As a group we will carry out a series of freeze-frame drawings throughout the day. Free drawing in graphite to literally get ourselves moving. Looking at key points needed to describe a simple movement.
Have the option to illustrate a number of suggested flip-books. This includes creating your own 3D rainbow in a flip book.
Design our own front covers.
Free flipping. Create our own flip book/s. No rules (well, apart from all of the above).
